Euro-Mediterranean: Israel’s brutality in Gaza exceeds the description of terrorism

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor (an independent Geneva-based organization) said on Friday that the crimes committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip are more brutal, organized, and widespread than those committed by armed terrorist groups, which have been met with widespread international condemnation.

The Observatory added, “The international community today stands silent, even complicit, in the face of a crime of genocide committed with the declared intent to erase the existence of Palestinians from their homeland. This crime has been carried out with will and determination for more than 18 months without interruption.”

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor explained that the Israeli occupation forces’ detonation of a robot bomb loaded with tons of explosives at dawn on Thursday in the heart of the Shuja’iyya neighborhood east of Gaza City, amidst an area densely populated with displaced persons, without any military necessity or presence of combat operations in the area. This detonation “embodies the behavior of terrorist gangs, and even exceeds them in brutality and disregard for human life. It bears no resemblance to the behavior of a state that is supposed to abide by international law.”

He pointed out that the Israeli occupation army has adopted, in recent months, particularly in the northern Gaza Strip, a policy of detonating booby-trapped robots in the heart of residential neighborhoods during ground operations.

He confirmed that more than 150 such bombings have been documented, resulting in “the deaths of hundreds of civilians, most of them women and children,” in addition to causing massive destruction to residential homes and infrastructure.
