HR Observatory: The Shuja’iyya Crime Is a Zionist Insistence on Erasing the Palestinian Presence in Gaza

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said that the horrific massacre committed by the Israeli occupation army in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood east of Gaza City represents a continuation of the crime of genocide, a clear embodiment of the denial of the right to life of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and a declared insistence on erasing their entire existence.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor stated in a press release yesterday Thursday, that based on available preliminary information, Israeli warplanes launched a number of raids using highly destructive bombs at approximately 9:28 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, on a crowded residential area on Baghdad Street in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood east of Gaza City. This resulted in the complete destruction of approximately ten homes over the heads of their residents, the killing of more than 35 civilians, and the wounding of more than 50 others.

According to preliminary information, dozens are still missing under the rubble. While civil defense crews, using primitive tools, succeeded in rescuing a number of those trapped under the rubble of destroyed homes, the fate of others remained unknown after search efforts were halted this evening due to the grave risks threatening rescue teams in the targeted area.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor noted that its team monitored appeals from people trapped under the rubble of destroyed homes, calling for help from their families to direct rescue teams to their locations. Search efforts were conducted using primitive methods, relying on simple hand tools, at a time when there was an urgent need to remove tons of rubble to rescue those trapped alive, some of whom died within a short time of suffocation or from their wounds, due to the impossibility of their timely recovery.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor noted that Israeli aircraft bombed another house in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood, killing five civilians and wounding others. This comes as part of a widespread aggression targeting the neighborhood since dawn last Thursday. This aggression began with the detonation of a booby-trapped robot, killing and wounding dozens of civilians. This was followed by orders to evacuate the population and intense bombing operations that continue to this day.
