Following the attack on AlAhi Arab Hospital, Gaza Health ministry issues an urgent appeal

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip issued an urgent appeal to the international community, calling for immediate action to protect the health system in the Strip following the airstrike that targeted Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City.

In a strongly worded press release, the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip condemned the Israeli attack on the hospital, the only fully functioning medical facility in the city, considering this targeting a crime against humanity.

The ministry stated that the airstrike, which occurred this morning, completely destroyed one of the hospital buildings, significantly paralyzing health services and forcing medical staff and patients to evacuate under the bombardment, exacerbating the suffering of thousands of wounded and sick people.

The statement indicated that the targeted buildings included the surgical department and the oxygen production plant used to treat critical cases. This has led to the suspension of essential medical services, with the injured now being treated in the streets and under the rubble of collapsed infrastructure.

The Ministry of Health stressed that targeting health facilities constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and international agreements, calling on the international community to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities.

The Ministry concluded its statement by saying:
“We call on international institutions and relevant parties to intervene urgently to protect the health sector in Gaza and prevent its complete collapse. We call on the international community to break its silence regarding these ongoing crimes.”
