An Israeli “security cordon” on 30% of Gaza Strip

The Israeli occupation army announced that it has transformed approximately 30% of the Gaza Strip into a “security cordon,” making it a buffer zone inhabited by residents.

In a statement today, the army said it has attacked approximately 1,200 “terrorist targets,” as it calls them, from the air and carried out more than 100 “targeted assassinations” since resuming its aggression on the Strip in March.

Meanwhile, approximately 500,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been displaced since the ceasefire ended and the hostilities resumed, according to the United Nations.

UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson, Stephanie Tremblay, said, “Our humanitarian partners estimate that approximately half a million people have been displaced since March 18, either for the first time or again.” The vast majority of the Strip’s population of more than two million had been displaced before the ceasefire.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned on Monday that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is “likely the worst” since the outbreak of the war, with the ongoing blockade and closure of crossings. It noted that a month and a half has passed “since any supplies have been allowed in, the longest period of time that supplies have been cut off to date.”
