Young Palestinian woman Aya Al-Skafi sits in one of the displacement camps in the Gaza Strip where she has sought refuge, holding her mobile phone and looking with tearful eyes at a photo of her infant daughter, Janan, who died in her arms on Saturday due to malnutrition and a lack of medicine, a result of the repercussions of the Israeli war of extermination.
This comes as the Israeli occupation continues its tight blockade of the Gaza Strip and has closed the crossings to the entry of aid and goods since March 2.
Jinan, 4 months old, was born during the genocidal war waged by Israel with American support in the Strip, amid the smoke of bombing and the roar of explosions. She lived for short months filled with hunger and a lack of the most basic necessities of life. Neither hunger nor the blockade would spare her long. Janan was one of dozens of children who fell victim to the systematic starvation policy pursued by the occupation against the Palestinian people.
The Government Media Office in Gaza announced that the death toll due to the Israeli starvation policy had risen to 57 Palestinians since October 7, 2023, warning of a further increase due to Tel Aviv’s closure of the crossings and its prevention of the entry of relief aid for two months.
