1,400pairs of white shoes in memory of the medical staff in Gaza

On Saturday, the Dutch city of Rotterdam held a symbolic event to commemorate the health workers killed in the Gaza Strip by Israeli attacks. 1,400 pairs of white shoes were placed in one of the city’s major squares. The event, organized by the Doctors for Gaza Foundation, took place in the famous Schaubrich Square in central Rotterdam.

A number of doctors working in the Netherlands and medical students participated in the event, which read the names of hundreds of medical workers who have been martyred since the start of the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023.

Bissan Al-Hay, a Palestinian medical student living in the Netherlands and director of Doctors for Gaza, said, “The Gaza Strip has witnessed the martyrdom of 1,400 workers, and so we have made 1,400 pairs of white shoes to represent each of the lives lost.”

She added, “We clearly condemn the targeting of hospitals and health workers in Gaza, and we call on the Dutch government to end its silence. International humanitarian law is being openly and blatantly violated, and we cannot remain silent anymore.”
