Rick Peeperkorn, the World Health Organization representative, said on Tuesday, citing the Palestinian Ministry of Health, that 57 children have died from the effects of malnutrition during the ongoing blockade of the Gaza Strip.
Pepperkorn added, during a video call, that the UN agency has not yet verified these figures. However, he noted that the WHO has observed an increase in the number of children suffering from malnutrition.
In this regard, several young patients have been reported with pneumonia and gastrointestinal diseases. He said that people usually do not die from hunger alone, but rather from related illnesses.
According to the WHO headquarters in Geneva, it has been announced that in recent weeks, more than 57 children may have already died due to the food crisis.
