A senior US warning against underestimating the Houthis’ capabilities

A senior US military official warned against underestimating the military capabilities of the Houthis in Yemen.

The warning from the US military official came days after US President Donald Trump announced the cessation of the war with the Houthis, which he had declared to launch in mid-March.

Acting Chief of Naval Operations James Kilby, during a discussion session at the US Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, said that his country’s army is monitoring the behavior of the Houthis and that they pose a major threat.

He added, “We have seen an increase in the behavior of the Houthis. Sometimes I hear some people talking about them with disdain. They are not China, but they pose a threat, and they are chasing our ships, so understanding that and not underestimating it and being prepared is what we are focusing on.”

He continued, “It is wrong to assume that the enemy will be content with silence and continue the same approach; they will change their tactics, so we have to monitor that and think carefully about what will change so that we can be prepared.”
