200Journalists and media professionals assassinated in the aggression on Gaza

The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) accused the Israeli occupation army of committing an unprecedented massacre in the history of the journalism profession, assassinating nearly 200 journalists and media workers during its ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip, which began on October 7, 2023.

In a statement yesterday, following its two-day general meeting in Budapest, the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) condemned “the deadly attacks against civilians, including journalists, over the past year and a half in the Gaza Strip,” signed jointly by all 120 member unions in 47 European countries.

The EFJ stated, “For all human rights defenders, one thing is clear: the Israeli army is seeking to impose a media blackout on Gaza to silence witnesses to the war crimes committed by its forces, as much as possible, at a time when a growing number of international NGOs and UN bodies are describing them as acts of genocide.”

He added, “As journalists, we consider the right to life a fundamental human right that everyone should enjoy. Based on our unwavering commitment to press freedom, it is our duty to condemn this policy, express our solidarity with our Palestinian colleagues, and repeatedly demand our right to enter Gaza.”
