Sources reported violent explosions in the Qatari capital Doha during the Iranian attack, which targeted the US base, which is considered the largest in the region.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it was part of an operation called “Bishara Al-Fath.” A statement by the Revolutionary Guard confirmed that the attack was “devastating and powerful,” conveying a message that Iran “will not leave any aggression on its sovereignty and national security without a response.”
The statement added, “US bases and mobile military targets in the region are not strengths of American national defense but major weaknesses and a thorn in the side of the US war-hungry system.”
For its part, the Iranian armed forces confirmed that the targeting of the Al-Udeid base came in response to what it described as the “blatant American aggression” on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities.
In the same context, the Iranian National Security Council explained that “the number of missiles used in this operation is equal to the number of bombs used by the US against our nuclear facilities,” indicating that “this action does not pose any threat to the friendly and brotherly state of Qatar and its people.”
The New York Times quoted 3 Iranian officials as saying that “Tehran had coordinated its attacks on the Al-Udeid base in Qatar in advance with Qatari officials.”
