Gaza and American Mercenaries: Signs of a Ceasefire

A Haaretz editorial (July 4, 2025) was significant when it discussed the role of American mercenaries in the killing of Palestinians in Gaza, stating that the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s mission had failed miserably.

The newspaper referred to an investigation published by the Associated Press on July 3, 2025, in which it quoted two security contractors who said they witnessed their colleagues firing live ammunition at Palestinians at the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s distribution centers. They said that the security contractors, working for Safe Reach Solutions, fired stun grenades and pepper-sprayed those waiting.

The newspaper stated that the Americans were also present to kill the Palestinians who die daily from bombing and at food distribution centers. It added that the mind can no longer bear the daily death toll, and that no one can claim that this does not involve an absolute majority of innocents or a mass killing, in the sense of genocide.

Haaretz pointed to its investigation last week, when it published testimonies from combat soldiers in Gaza, in which they spoke of intentionally shooting innocent civilians lined up in inhumane lines near aid centers. The investigation was described by the Prime Minister and Defense Minister as a “despicable blood libel,” although the contents were confirmed by an Israeli army spokesperson and are being “corrected.” The newspaper said that the war, which no one in Israel cares about, has a price on soldiers and the families of prisoners. On Thursday, its correspondent published testimonies from five soldiers, who described a shocking reality in which soldiers in Gaza described their state of despair, anger, and terror.

“Everything in Gaza cries out for an immediate end to the war. It is pointless, aimless, and utterly brutal. This war must end at any cost,” it said. It is a war with no winners. Unlike Israel’s wars over the past two years, all ended quickly, except for the Gaza war.
