Two Australian doctors returning from Gaza: “Blood everywhere”

Australian doctors Saya Aziz and Nada Abu al-Rub told AFP the horrific scenes they saw daily of adults and children whose limbs were severed by Israeli bombardment, which has turned the Gaza Strip into a human slaughterhouse, two years after the outbreak of the war.

Saya Aziz, an anesthesiologist, said that the images and videos in the media and on social media of the scale of destruction and killing in Gaza do not adequately convey the reality in the besieged Strip.

“What the video doesn’t convey is the smell, the wailing, and the screams of parents watching their children die or suffer in pain,” she told AFP on Saturday.

She added that daily life in Gaza has become “one huge number of injuries after another huge number of injuries.” She explained that she saw “torn and dismembered bodies, blood, crushed heads, broken arms, severed limbs—not just severed, but shattered.”

She continued, “You can’t see scenes like this in your life. Blood everywhere… It’s like a slaughterhouse.”

Aziz and her colleague, Nada Abu al-Rub, an Australian of Palestinian origin, spent four weeks on a mission in Gaza and left the Palestinian enclave on Sunday morning.
