The Government Media Office in Gaza revealed on Wednesday a horrific humanitarian toll as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, confirming that the occupation kills two medical personnel every day, a journalist every three days, and a civil defense worker every five days, in addition to wounding 232 Palestinians daily, more than half of whom are children and women. The statement added that the occupation causes the amputation of 13 Palestinians every two days, and the paralysis or loss of sight of six others during the same period. It confirmed that the Israeli occupation army launches more than one daily military attack on the health system.
Yesterday, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza issued a comprehensive report marking the second anniversary of what it described as a “war of extermination,” calling for urgent international action to save the collapsed health system in the Gaza Strip. The statement indicated that the total number of martyrs and wounded has reached 236,953, including 20,179 children, 10,427 women, and 4,813 elderly people. 1,701 medical personnel were also martyred, and 362 others were detained under coercive conditions described by the Ministry as inhumane. The report indicated that 25 of 38 hospitals were out of service, and the remaining 13 were only partially functioning. In addition, 103 of 157 primary care centers were destroyed. The statement pointed to a severe medical supply crisis, with a 55% shortage of essential medicines, a 66% shortage of medical consumables, and a 68% shortage of laboratory supplies. According to the statement, hospital bed occupancy has risen to 225%, and the occupation has destroyed 61 generators and 25 oxygen generating stations out of 35, causing a humanitarian disaster.
The ministry also recorded 460 deaths due to famine and malnutrition, including 154 children, confirming that more than 51,000 children under the age of five are suffering from severe malnutrition.
The statement indicated that the denial of access to vaccinations has led to a drop in vaccination coverage to 80% and the suspension of the fourth phase of polio vaccination. It warned of the spread of disease in forced assembly areas that lack the most basic necessities of life.
