The director of medical relief in Gaza confirms that the health system is at risk of collapse amid increasing infections and a shortage of aid

Dr. Bassam Zaqout, Director of the Medical Relief Society in Gaza, confirmed that the health sector is suffering from accumulated crises that are worsening by the day, in light of an unprecedented rise in the number of injured people and the increasing spread of chronic and infectious diseases due to malnutrition and the deterioration of the general health situation.

In press statements, Zaqout explained that “the medical aid that has entered the Gaza Strip over the past two years has never been sufficient to meet the growing needs,” noting that the scale of the health and living disaster in Gaza far exceeds the support and aid provided.

He pointed out that some hospitals previously received approximately 100 injured people per day, but that this number has recently risen to approximately 700 injured people per day, far exceeding the capacity of the health system to accommodate and deal with the increasing number of medical cases.

Zaqout stressed that the continuation of this situation without effective international intervention will lead to the complete collapse of the health system in the Gaza Strip, calling for urgent action to provide the necessary medical and relief support.
