Guterres: There are “strong reasons” to believe that “Israel” has committed war crimes in the Gaza Strip

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said there are “strong reasons” to believe that Israel has committed war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

In a press interview in New York last night, Guterres added, “I think there is something fundamentally wrong with the way this (military) operation has been conducted, with a complete disregard for the killing of civilians and the destruction of Gaza.”

Guterres praised the United States for its active role in improving aid access to Gaza, where a global hunger monitoring group reported in August that famine was widespread.

He explained that there is excellent cooperation in the field of humanitarian aid between the United Nations and the United States, and “I hope that this cooperation will continue and develop.”

Guterres asked that the values defended by the international organization not be questioned, saying, “I am not interested in getting into any argument with the US administration. I am interested in preserving the values of the United Nations and the values through which I believe we can build a more just world where international law is respected.”
