Iran announced that the Strait of Hormuz represents a key pressure card in negotiations aimed at ending the war with the US, affirming that it will not relinquish this card during the coming phase.

Iran’s Fars news agency quoted the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Army, Amir Hatami, as saying that the Strait of Hormuz represents a “geopolitical asset,” indicating that Tehran won’t allow this card to return to its previous status.

Hatami added that control over the Strait of Hormuz represents one of the “necessary conditions for ending the war” with the US, affirming that his country “will protect this capability with all its might.”

In the military context, Hatami stated that the Iranian army is working to restore its offensive and defensive capabilities “quickly,” amid the continued military tension with Washington.

The region has been witnessing confrontations between Iran, the US, and Israel since the outbreak of the war on February 28, following Washington and Tel Aviv’s strikes on Iranian targets.

Diplomatic efforts led to a ceasefire in April, before a memorandum of understanding was signed in June that paved the way for peace talks. However, military operations later resumed.

Since then, confrontations have continued intermittently, with military operations concentrated in southern Iran and the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime passages for energy supplies.

These statements come amid the faltering diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington, coinciding with continued Iranian attacks on civilian ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, heightening concerns over navigation security and global energy supplies.
