UNRWA: Gaza’s children risk becoming a “lost generation”

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Monday that Gaza’s children risk becoming a “lost generation,” having been deprived of education for three consecutive years due to war and destruction.
In a post on its official X account, the agency said, “At this time of year, Gaza’s children should be preparing for school, choosing backpacks and sharpening pencils, and dreaming of the new academic year. Instead, today they are searching for water, lining up for food, and finding shelter in classrooms that have been turned into overcrowded shelters.”
UNRWA added, “There is no safe place in Gaza, and no place for people to go, as residents live with the horror of forced displacement once again.”
It asked, “How will the elderly walk? Will there be any health and sanitation services? Will there be a place to take shelter?”
The agency emphasized that a ceasefire is the only way to protect civilians in Gaza and prevent the humanitarian catastrophe the Strip is experiencing.
