Gaza Municipality warns of a humanitarian disaster

The Gaza Municipality warned of an imminent humanitarian and environmental disaster in light of the continued lack of the necessary capabilities to restore even the most basic services. This is a result of the widespread devastation caused by the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and the occupation’s use of new weapons, which has led to unprecedented destruction of infrastructure.
Municipality spokesman Asem al-Nabih said that the city is witnessing massive destruction “beyond description.” He noted that the occupation has used new weapons in recent weeks, such as explosive-laden armored vehicles (robots), causing widespread destruction to homes and vital facilities, from water and sewage networks to water wells and roads.
Al-Nabih explained that “more than 85% of the municipality’s equipment and machinery have been severely damaged over the past two years, leading to a near-total paralysis in its ability to provide basic services to citizens.”
He explained that “the municipality has prepared a list of urgent needs and submitted it to UN organizations. This list includes heavy machinery, fuel, maintenance materials, spare parts, generators, transformers, and water pipes.”
He pointed out that “the municipality has developed a three-stage emergency plan: beginning with the continuation of the emergency, followed by the early recovery phase, and finally, reconstruction,” emphasizing that its implementation “is linked to the provision of urgent support and supplies.”
The municipality spokesperson called on international institutions and donors to urgently intervene to address the municipality’s needs, enable it to provide basic services, and alleviate the suffering of citizens that has continued for more than two years.
