Director General of the Ministry of Health: The situation in Gaza is critical, and only 10% of the required medicines have arrived

A senior medical official in Gaza warned of grave medical risks facing patients and the wounded in the Gaza Strip, despite the ceasefire agreement. He stated that the medical supplies and aid that have arrived represent no more than 10% of the needs of the medical sector, which was deliberately destroyed by the Israeli occupation over the past two years. He also pointed to a shortage of medical personnel.

Deprivation of Treatment

Dr. Munir al-Barsh, Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, told Al-Quds Al-Arabi, highlighting the significant danger facing Gaza residents, that approximately 20,000 patients need to travel abroad for treatment, as such treatment is unavailable in Gaza’s hospitals, which are suffering from destruction and a lack of resources.

He explained that among this total, 18,000 patients have completed the necessary travel procedures after being approved according to the procedures of the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, and are awaiting Israeli approval to leave.

Despite the large number of Gaza residents who need to travel for medical treatment or surgery to treat serious injuries sustained during the war, the occupying authorities imposing a siege on the Gaza Strip only allow a small number of patients and injured people to travel abroad, and at widely spaced intervals.
