Border tribes rise up against Saudi Arabia with a coup in their alliance… The UAE throws its strongest cards to settle the battle for Hadhramaut
On Wednesday, the UAE threw new cards into its battle in the oil-rich Hadhramaut in eastern Yemen. This coincides with the failure of “Plan A” following a military split in the areas under its control along the governorate’s coast, which borders Saudi Arabia.
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
The Al-Say’ar tribes, the largest tribes in the desert near the Saudi border, issued a new statement demanding the accreditation of thousands of their sons as new recruits. They also confirmed their rejection of the deployment of the Saudi-aligned “Nation Shield” factions along their desert districts adjacent to the Kingdom.
The statement emphasized the necessity of assigning the tasks of the border areas with Saudi Arabia, specifically the areas of (Zamkh and Manukh, Hazr, Magharib, Sardab, Khashm Al-Jabal), to the tribesmen currently enlisted in the Border Guard forces, vowing to confront any attempt to empower the “Nation Shield.”
They also demanded the allocation of financial sums from the revenues of the Al-Wadiah land port for their benefit.
This statement is the first of its kind by these tribes that are widely spread at the confluence of the land borders in eastern Yemen. It was considered—in terms of timing—a strong message from the UAE to Saudi Arabia, especially as it coincides with the escalation of tension in the oil region of Yemen due to the UAE’s push to settle its file militarily.
The statement coincided with meetings held by sheikhs loyal to the UAE in the Hadhramaut valley, aiming to restructure the Saudi-aligned tribal alliance led by Amr bin Habrish.
Transitional media circulated news about the restructuring committee meeting officially.
The moving of the tribal card in the valley and desert of Hadhramaut, which is characterized by tribal influence, came with the failure of the Emirati plan to settle the battle for the plateau militarily.
Following a meeting chaired by Faraj Al-Bahsani, the Presidential Council member representing Hadhramaut and vice president of the Emirati-backed Transitional Council, only a few factions announced their readiness to implement his directives, which was interpreted as reflecting a split within the so-called Second Military Region, which is stationed on the coast of Hadhramaut and is considered one of the strike forces.
The announcement was also limited to leaders, in addition to the Al-Ahqaf and Al-Rayyan brigades, which are militias affiliated with the STC in Aden, while other forces were absent from the scene.
For days, the UAE has been engaged in activity regarding the Hadhramaut file, pushing towards a new crisis with Saudi Arabia, aiming to link it to regional files, most notably Sudan.
