UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Perez stated that since the ceasefire agreement went into effect on October 11 in Gaza, “an average of two children are killed every day in the Gaza Strip as a result of Israeli attacks.”
During his weekly press briefing at the UN office in Geneva yesterday, Perez noted that “despite the ceasefire, a girl was killed on Thursday in an Israeli airstrike on Khan Younis in the southern Gaz Strip, and the day before that, seven children were killed in Gaza City.”
He added that “since the ceasefire began on October 11, at least 67 children have been killed in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, and dozens more have been injured. This means that the death toll has been an average of two children per day since the ceasefire began.”
Perez explained, “These numbers are not just statistics; each one represents a child with a family and dreams.” He emphasized, “A harsh reality is being imposed on the children of Gaza. There is no safe place for them, and the world cannot continue to normalize their suffering.”
The spokesperson noted that UNICEF is undertaking extensive interventions in Gaza, but they are still insufficient. He added, “If the necessary aid and support arrived more quickly, we could do so much more.”
Perez explained, “Hundreds of thousands of children are living in tents and facing harsh winter conditions. The children of Gaza spend the night without heating, insulation, or blankets, leaving them to suffer from the cold.”
