mothers of missing persons in Gaza held a vigil to demand information about the fate of their sons who disappeared or were forcibly disappeared during the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
Dozens of mothers gathered in front of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) headquarters in western Gaza City, holding pictures of their missing sons and banners demanding information about their whereabouts. Community figures were also present. The vigil coincided with International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8.
Faten Abu al-Kas, the mother of one of the missing men, said she was there to convey her message and the message of thousands of mothers who lost their sons as a result of the Israeli war on Gaza.
Speaking on the sidelines of the vigil, she added that Palestinian women “have suffered and continue to suffer like no other women in the world. We have lost husbands, sons, fathers, and grandsons… we have lost everything.”
She explained that “words cannot describe the pain, sorrow, anguish, and oppression we are experiencing, knowing nothing about our forcibly disappeared sons.”
She continued: “On International Women’s Day, we want to send messages to all relevant parties, in order to help us uncover the fate of our children.”
