Iran: Navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is halted amid continued American military operations

Iran’s Gulf Navigation Management Authority announced that navigation through the Strait of Hormuz has become impossible amid the continuation of what it described as “American hostile military actions,” affirming that the resumption of transit traffic will remain conditional on the stabilization of security conditions.

The authority stated that, as soon as the security situation improves, all ship transit requests will be reviewed and necessary permits will be issued “as quickly as possible.”

The announcement comes days after the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced the targeting of two naval tankers that it said attempted to cross the Strait of Hormuz via a route “not declared” by Iranian authorities, confirming that they had stopped sailing.

The Revolutionary Guard renewed its warning that what it described as “illegal interventions and dictates” imposed by the US army on ships in the strait “will not pass without a response,” affirming the continued application of Iranian navigation procedures in Hormuz.

Iran had announced the re-closure of the Strait of Hormuz about three weeks ago until the end of what it described as “American interventions” in the region, accusing Washington of directing ships to a southern passage it considers unsafe, in addition to carrying out attacks on areas in southern Iran.

In response, the US announced the re-imposition of a naval blockade on Iranian ports and coasts, and also canceled licenses related to the sale of Iranian oil, a step Tehran said represents a reneging on the commitments contained in the “Islamabad” memorandum of understanding.
