Commander of US central command in Riyadh and Yemen is at the top of his agenda
The commander of the US Central Command began a new visit to Saudi Arabia on Saturday as part of efforts to reinvigorate the war on Yemen.
Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
According to a statement from the US Central Command, General Michael Corrilla held meetings in Riyadh with the US Ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Vogel, and the US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Michael Ratney, along with the Saudi Chief of Staff, Fayyad Al-Ruwaili.
According to the statement, the discussions focused on developments in the Red Sea and the shared security concerns arising from them.
Corrilla’s visit coincides with an intense American movement regarding the Red Sea issue, which emerged in a draft resolution in the Security Council to provide cover for a new escalation, in addition to threats from the US State Department to impose further sanctions on Yemen.
Parallel movements indicate America’s efforts to persuade Saudi Arabia to finance its ongoing naval operations since last January and to push for a greater escalation in light of what the US project in the Security Council entails regarding support for factions loyal to the coalition.
