Why did Yemen decide to target an American supply ship with about 20 missiles and drones?

For the first time in Yemeni operations history, the military forces launched a major attack on an American cargo ship. Did Sana’a want to inaugurate its new year, or was it a response to the strategic bombers?

Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

According to Yemeni military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the operation in the Arabian Sea over the past weekend targeted the “MEGALOPOLIS” ship, a container ship also contracted with the American forces in the Gulf and serving as a supply line for them.

Although Brigadier General Saree attributed the targeting of the ship to its company’s involvement in an attempt to breach the navigation ban to Israeli ports, the timing and scale of the operation suggest other dimensions as well.

According to the US Central Command, the operation involved about 20 missiles and drones and lasted for days, indicating that the Yemeni forces continued to pursue the ship during its presence in the Arabian Sea despite its distance from the Yemeni coasts under Sana’a’s control.

In reality, this operation, which is expected to be part of a naval battle with the American forces accompanying the ships, carries several messages. In terms of timing, the operation signifies that Yemen’s stockpile of missiles and drones was unaffected by the recent American airstrikes that targeted Sana’a and Sa’ada specifically, using B-2 strategic bombers, with Washington claiming to have successfully destroyed Yemen’s air capabilities.

In addition to the first dimension, there is a signal in Brigadier Saree’s statement indicating the launch of the second year of Gaza support operations, which is also an indication of Yemen’s decision to welcome the new year with major operations.

The targeting of the “POLIS” ship may convey several Yemeni messages simultaneously, regardless of the extent of the damage inflicted on the ship, which remains stranded in the Arabian Sea near the Omani Salalah coast at the moment, according to the ship tracking site “Marine Traffic.” However, it is evident that this indicates Yemen is entering a new phase of operations in the Arabian Sea after operations there have been limited to several missiles and drones.
