UNRWA: Cold weather and homelessness cause neonatal deaths in Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said that cold weather in the Gaza Strip has caused the death of at least seven newborn babies, as they have no shelter to protect them from the cold. It said in a post on the X platform on Sunday that some 7,700 newborns in the Gaza Strip “lack the necessary care to save their lives.” UNRWA warned on Saturday that its operations could be paralyzed as the Israeli decision to ban its operations expected by the end of January comes into effect. UNRWA said in its publication on Sunday that the World Health Organization condemned the Israeli raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, which led to its suspension of work, after it was the last hospital to provide medical service to the residents of the northern Strip. According to the World Health Organization, Kamal Adwan Hospital has been verified to have been subjected to about 50 attacks, both on the hospital itself and its surroundings, since last October.
