Following the disruption of telecommunications and internet services in Gaza on 26 December, services gradually returned to all areas of Gaza on 27 December. The frequent disruption of telecommunications, coupled with intense hostilities, insecurity, blocked roads and fuel shortages, pose significant challenges to humanitarian operations.
On 27 December, heavy Israeli shelling from land, sea and air continued in most parts of the Gaza Strip. The most affected areas in the north were Gaza City and Jabalia. In the central area, hostilities continued in the four refugee camps of Bureij, Nuseirat, Deir al-Balah and Maghazi. At the same time, Israeli forces shelled multiple targets in the cities of Khan Younis and Rafah in the south. Ground operations and heavy fighting between Israeli forces and Palestinian armed groups continued in most areas, except Rafah, and Palestinian armed groups continued to fire rockets towards Israel.
Between 26 and 27 December, 195 Palestinians were killed and 325 injured, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza. Between the afternoon of December 26 and 27, no Israeli soldiers were reported killed in Gaza. Since the ground operation began, 162 soldiers have been killed and 898 wounded in Gaza, according to the Israeli military.
