Water crisis exacerbated in Gaza due to power cuts to distribution and desalination plants

Israel cut off electricity to the main desalination plant in Deir al-Balah, in a move that increases the suffering of the residents of the Gaza Strip, which has greatly affected the lives of more than half a million Palestinians.

As the humanitarian situation deteriorates as a result of this decision, fears are growing that the health and environmental conditions will worsen in light of the continued closure and blockade.

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said earlier that the closure of all crossings creates a situation in which basic aid and food are used as a tool to achieve a political or military goal, which is contrary to any international humanitarian standard, expressing the hope that what was proposed by the Arab countries in the Cairo statement and endorsed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will become the alternative plan because it means that we preserve the unity of the future of the Palestinian state.
