Hebrew report: Netanyahu receives a strategic slap after Trump’s announcement of an agreement with Sana’a

The Hebrew Jerusalem Post newspaper published an analytical report that shed light on the state of shock and confusion within the circles of decision-makers in Israel following the announcement by the American administration (Trump) of reaching an agreement with the (Houthis) Ansar Allah group, which stipulates the cessation of their attacks on American ships in the Red Sea in exchange for Washington stopping air strikes against them.

Follow ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

The newspaper said that the surprise was not only in the content of the agreement but also in the way it was passed without the knowledge of Washington’s closest ally, as it quoted an Israeli official telling the Washington Post, “We were completely shocked. Israel was not aware before Trump made his statement.”

It added that this statement reflects the depth of the strategic exposure experienced by Netanyahu’s government, which has always presented itself as directly connected to the “decision-making center” in Washington.

It indicated that the sudden announcement came just hours after the Israeli aggression on Yemen, where the US provided a security umbrella through preventive air cover to protect Israeli planes from any possible reaction. The newspaper considered this as evidence that Israel was moving on the ground within the perception that there was a strategic consensus, while Washington was working on a parallel diplomatic track without coordinating with it.

The newspaper linked this shift in Trump’s position to the “America First” principle that was a slogan for his election campaign, noting that the Trump administration did not launch thousands of raids on Houthi targets for the sake of Israel’s security, but because the Houthis disrupted trade movement in the Red Sea, which affected the economic interests of the US.

The report pointed out that excluding Israel from prior notification operations represents more than a protocol flaw but a real warning bell about Israel’s place in the new White House equations, especially with the impending resumption of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear file.

The newspaper said that Trump intends to visit three Arab countries to sign major strategic deals, without his tour including Israel unless he is politically pressured to modify his course.

It added that despite Netanyahu’s insistence that coordination with Washington is ongoing and that Israel is being provided with security and political updates through multiple channels, including the special envoy, what happened this time raises wide doubts within the security and political establishment in Tel Aviv.

It indicated that this neglect may not be the first of its kind and may not be the last in a series of steps taken by Washington unilaterally, in isolation from its “closest security partner.”

The report stressed that Netanyahu received a harsh message: that American priorities in the Middle East have begun to take shape without going through Tel Aviv and that the Trump administration, which Israel has always touted as an unconditionally supportive administration, is capable of making fateful decisions that may not find an echo within the Israeli institution until it is too late.
