The World Central Kitchen announced a halt to cooking in Gaza as supplies to cook or bake bread ran out. The organization noted that it had provided more than 130 million meals and 26 million loaves of bread over the past 18 months.
The organization added that “since Israel closed the border crossings in early March, the organization has been unable to replenish the food stocks it uses to feed hundreds of thousands of Gazans daily.”
It noted that its teams have been working creatively and responsibly in recent weeks to use every remaining ingredient and fuel.
It noted that it has resorted to alternative fuels such as wood pallets and olive stone capsules, and abandoned rice recipes that require more fuel in favor of soup and bread.
It emphasized that the organization’s large-scale field kitchens have run out of ingredients needed to prepare daily meals, and that it has no flour for its mobile bakery, which was the last operating bakery in Gaza.
The World Central Kitchen confirmed that more than 80% of the community kitchens have run out of the supplies they provided.
She stressed that without ingredients or fuel, these kitchens cannot feed the families who depend on them. She noted that she continues to support Palestinian families by distributing clean drinking water wherever possible.
