While the Israeli occupation forces penetrate deep into the city of Gaza, from the eastern side, the residents live one of the bloodiest and catastrophic moments in the city’s history.
Three large neighborhoods, which are the brave, olives, and apples, have become an arena for the scorched-earth policy, after most of its inhabitants were displaced, and its neighborhoods were transformed into blocks of rubble, while the cries of the stranded without help rise.
These neighborhoods, in addition to the stairs, form the old city of Gaza, before expanding over the past decades to the west.
According to the spokesman for its municipality, Hosni Muhanna, the area of the three neighborhoods constitutes 50% of the city’s area, and is also inhabited by about half of the population of Gaza, and they were forced to exodus under bombardment. After the resumption of the aggression on March 18, the Israeli occupation targets these neighborhoods by overtaking them by land and bombing them by air, after ordering their residents to flee. Muhanna explains to Al Jazeera Net that the occupation pursues a policy of systematic destruction, as it records the demolition of entire residential squares daily, and that the Gaza Municipality has been forced to stop providing its services in those areas, as its operations are currently focused on the west of the city, and some of the remaining areas.
From the middle. As a result of this mass exodus, the pressure on the west of the city has doubled. According to the municipality, about 1.2 million people are currently overcrowded in a geographically limited area, which includes displaced people from eastern Gaza and from the completely abandoned northern Gaza Strip.
