The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip appealed on Tuesday to the international community to provide protection for hospitals and medical personnel and open safe routes to them after the Israeli army warned Gaza City residents to evacuate and move towards the Mawasi area to the south.
The ministry said in a post on Telegram: “We demand immediate protection for hospitals and medical personnel and the opening of safe routes to reach them in the Gaza Strip.”
It warned of a humanitarian catastrophe threatening the lives of thousands of sick and wounded.
This morning, the Israeli army warned all Palestinians in Gaza City, numbering approximately one million, to evacuate the city and head towards the Mawasi area in the southern Gaza Strip.
Israeli army spokesman Avichay Edri said in a post on the American company X: “An urgent message to the residents of Gaza City, from the Old City and al-Tuffah in the east to the sea in the west: For your safety, move immediately towards Mawasi via Rashid Street.”
He added that “the residents’ continued presence in the city is extremely dangerous,” warning that “the IDF will act with great force in the area.”
A few days ago, Israel began a gradual demolition campaign of high-rise residential buildings in Gaza City, increasing the number of displaced families and forcing them into harsh displacement conditions. Observers warn that the goal is to forcibly displace Palestinians southward, as part of a broader Israeli-American plan to displace them from the Strip.
