UNRWA: 61 million tons of rubble cover the Gaza Strip

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that more than 61 million tons of rubble cover the Gaza Strip two years after the war.

The agency stressed in a statement on Thursday that entire neighborhoods have been wiped out, and families are searching for water and shelter among the rubble in Gaza.

It stated that its humanitarian aid remains blocked, but its teams continue to provide life-saving assistance.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has confirmed that the estimated cost of rebuilding Gaza amounts to $70 billion.

During a press conference in Geneva on Tuesday, Jacco Cilliers said that estimates indicate there are at least 55 million tons of rubble in the Strip.

For his part, a Palestinian official from the Gaza Municipality indicated that the occupying power destroyed approximately 95% of the trucks and heavy equipment in the Strip.

He added that 193,000 buildings were completely destroyed as a result of the war, and 16 hospitals are now operating with limited capacity.

The Israeli occupation, with absolute American support, has been committing genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, including killing, starvation, destruction, and displacement, ignoring international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to stop it.
