UNRWA spokesman: Thousands of patients in Gaza need urgent medical evacuation

Adnan Abu Hasna, spokesperson for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), revealed that thousands of patients in Gaza are suffering from tragic humanitarian conditions and need urgent evacuation for treatment outside the Strip.

He emphasized the seriousness of the worsening health crisis due to the destruction of hospitals and the fuel shortage, which is affecting water supplies and emergency care.

In a statement, Abu Hasna explained that many patients do not have access to treatment inside Gaza, making it necessary to carry out medical evacuations abroad.

He emphasized the importance of introducing specialized field hospitals and qualified medical teams, given the exhaustion of medical personnel in the Strip, the destruction of equipment, and the severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies.

He emphasized that the health system in Gaza has completely collapsed, and the majority of hospitals are out of service.

He pointed out that introducing field hospitals has become a necessity, given the health sector’s need for urgent and radical intervention to ensure its ability to deal with even a small portion of the current health disaster.

The UN official said that health response teams continue to work under extremely difficult operating conditions, given the extensive damage to health infrastructure.

He noted the obstacles to safe movement and the severe restrictions on the entry of medical supplies and fuel needed to operate health facilities.

In a related context, UNRWA announced in a statement yesterday that residents of the Gaza Strip are facing a severe shortage of basic hygiene supplies. It stated that “soap has become difficult to access in Gaza,” stressing that a regular flow of basic hygiene supplies, including soap, is an urgent necessity that must be met.
