America’s refusal to withdraw a British “petrochemical” ship portends a disaster in the Red Sea

Yesterday, the US refused to withdraw a British petrochemical tanker that threatens a disaster in the Red Sea, revealing America’s attempt to exploit the ship to pressure Yemen to halt its operations against American, British, and Israeli vessels.

The American CNN channel quoted officials in the Biden administration as saying that conditions are not favorable for withdrawing the ship “RUBYMAR.”

The officials linked the withdraw of the ship to the cessation of Yemeni attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

The American statements come on the eve of Yemen’s offer to salvage the stranded ship off the coast of Hanish Island, which is under the control of factions loyal to the coalition.

Prominent among these offers is the invitation of the Aden government to assist it, as well as a proposal from Sana’a, expressed by Mohammed Al-Houthi, a member of the Supreme Political Council, offering to help withdraw the ship in exchange for the entry of food shipments to Gaza.

The American move, which deploys about 19 battleships and two submarines in the area where the ship is currently located, indicates its attempt to exert pressure by the accident of the ship, which it began promoting as an environmental disaster in the Red Sea, to achieve an agenda that it failed to achieve militarily.

The most prominent of which is pressure on Yemen to halt maritime operations.

The ship, whose crew was evacuated on the 18th of this month, was left adrift in the sea after its engine was damaged, carrying approximately 41,000 tons of fertilizer, according to the American account, which published a picture of it showing a leaked amount of fuel.
