Hit of an Italian battleship in confrontations in the Gulf of Aden

The European mission in the Red Sea confirmed on Tuesday that one of its battleships was targeted during confrontations in the Gulf of Aden.

Exclusive – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

The mission, known as “Operation Aspides,” stated in a statement that the Italian battleship “Virginio Fasan” engaged with several drones launched from Yemeni territories.

It also confirmed that the battleship was subjected to several aerial attacks.

The European statement came on the eve of reports of the hit of the Italian battleship, with navigational sources stating that an explosion rocked one side of the battleship.

Italy is one of the few European countries that has kept its battleships in the Red Sea, while other countries decided to withdraw early. The presence of Italian battleships exposes them to repeated attacks in light of Yemen’s insistence on banning navigation to Israeli ports.

Several European battleships have been previously withdrawn following reports of attacks since the deployment of the European fleet in February of last year.
