UNICEF spokesperson: “We need to get more aid into Gaza

Tess Ingram, a spokeswoman for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), warned that children in the Gaza Strip need urgent aid before winter and falling temperatures.

In an interview with Al Jazeera Mubasher, Tess said, “A ceasefire doesn’t mean children will have water to drink tomorrow. Therefore, our focus now is on trying to meet the basic needs of these children by bringing in more aid to address malnutrition, providing drinking water, and preparing families for the winter season.”

Tess pointed out that last winter saw the death of several children due to the cold, adding, “Statistics from the Palestinian Ministry of Health indicate that 64,000 Palestinian children were killed or injured during the war. Furthermore, there are many more children missing under the rubble, and 58,000 children have lost one or both of their parents.”

Tess said, “There are many children in Gaza who lack care, whether from a parent, relatives, the wider family, or even neighbors. Therefore, they are in need of care. All of them have certainly experienced fear, loss, trauma, and deprivation, which will remain with them for years to come.”
