Due to the genocide and its repercussions, 10,000 patients died as a result of being denied treatment in the Gaza Strip

The Gaza Center for Human Rights stated that 10,000 Palestinians have died in the Gaza Strip due to denial of medical treatment, a consequence of the systematic targeting and destruction of the healthcare system. Among them, 1,000 died as a result of being prevented from traveling for treatment due to Israeli restrictions over the past 25 months. The Center called on the international community to intervene urgently to compel Israel to lift these restrictions, open the crossings, guarantee freedom of movement, and ensure the provision of essential supplies to hospitals in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement issued Sunday, the Center warned that thousands of Palestinian patients in the Gaza Strip are facing a daily race against time, their health deteriorating due to the collapse of the healthcare system, the lack of necessary equipment and treatments, the continued closure of the Rafah crossing, and the Israeli obstacles preventing their travel.

The Center confirmed that it has documented the deaths of 10,000 patients, including women and children, during their treatment journeys in the Gaza Strip over the past two years of Israeli aggression, which has included the systematic targeting and destruction of the healthcare system.

The Center noted that among the documented deaths were 1,000 patients who were on waiting lists for travel. As a result of their deteriorating health and the lack of appropriate treatments, the remaining cases died due to the lack of treatment facilities and the destruction of medical equipment, laboratories, and medicines in the sector.

The Gaza Center called on the international community and the World Health Organization to reject the current system for medical evacuations, which places Israel in control of the process. The center explained that referral requests are subject to a complex series of procedures that often end in Israeli rejection or delayed responses, while patients’ health deteriorates due to the lack of appropriate treatment in the Gaza Strip.

The center noted that 16,500 patients are still awaiting approval, including 4,000 children who urgently need to be transferred to save their lives, while thousands more are waiting for the necessary medical referrals.
