UNICEF: We are making every effort to provide relief to the people of Gaza amidst the severe cold wave

UNICEF spokesperson Kazem Abu Khalaf stated that they are making every effort to provide relief to the people of Gaza amidst the severe cold and rain currently affecting the Strip. He noted that they have distributed approximately 5,000 tents, over 220,000 tarpaulins, and 29,000 winter clothing sets for children, but this is insufficient given the immense needs in the Gaza Strip.

He added that they have over 930,000 cans of infant formula ready for use as part of their “Warmth in Winter” campaign, which aims to prevent children from falling into the cycle of malnutrition at various stages. However, these cans, along with much other aid, are still awaiting Israeli approval to enter the Gaza Strip.

He pointed out that thousands of tons of aid are piling up at the crossings, which, if allowed to enter, would benefit children. However, if Israeli intransigence and procrastination continue regarding the entry of necessary and vital aid into the Gaza Strip, the humanitarian situation will become even more complicated. He noted that 17 children died last winter due to the low temperatures, and warned that if the current situation persists, we expect to see more child victims this winter.

The spokesperson explained that many homes have been destroyed, and children are scattered between dilapidated tents and seeking shelter in already damaged homes amidst unforgiving temperatures.
