Water scarcity in Gaza amid the summer heat

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned of “dire health consequences” in the Gaza Strip due to the lack of clean water and soap, overcrowded shelters, and the summer heat, amid the ongoing Israeli blockade and the severe hunger facing the population.

In a post on the X platform on Saturday, UNRWA reiterated its call for the Israeli blockade on Gaza to be lifted and for humanitarian aid, including hygiene supplies, to resume.
UNRWA explained that Palestinian children in Gaza are unable to bathe properly due to the lack of clean water and soap, a result of the ongoing blockade.
The UN agency warned that “overcrowded shelters and the summer heat in Gaza could lead to dire health consequences.”
The health system in Gaza is suffering from a complete collapse due to the deliberate Israeli targeting of the remaining functioning hospitals and health centers in the Strip, and the prevention of the entry of medicines, supplies, and medical equipment. The remaining hospitals and medical centers are also at risk of shutting down due to the worsening fuel crisis resulting from the Israeli closure of the crossings since last March.
