The Yemeni maritime blockade forces the enemy government to turn the port of Eilat into a government casino
The Hebrew newspaper “Maariv” published a report revealing moves within the municipality of Umm Al-Rashrash Eilat to establish a government casino in the city overlooking the Red Sea in an attempt to compensate for the massive economic losses resulting from the closure of the port and the decline in commercial and tourism activity.

The newspaper referred to statements by the deputy mayor, who said that the project is not for entertainment but a necessary economic step to address the acute budget deficit after the cessation of maritime traffic and the decline in revenues due to the blockade imposed by the Yemeni armed forces on ships linked to Israel.
The official added that the project is still under discussion with the government agencies and is part of plans to compensate the city for the damage it has suffered after a near-complete paralysis of the port’s activity and the diversion of ship routes to alternative ports.
The newspaper explained that Umm Al-Rashrash has been facing a suffocating economic crisis for months, with a decline in the number of visitors, a stagnation in the hotel and service sectors, and the port’s cessation of receiving ships after the expansion of Yemeni attacks on ships heading to Israel, which has prompted global shipping companies to avoid the area completely.
