WFP: Cessation of fighting is essential to save Gaza’s population

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) confirmed that a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is the only way to safely and regularly deliver humanitarian aid to all residents, stressing that the current situation threatens the lives of hundreds of thousands and pushes them toward famine.
In an official statement, the WFP explained that it has enough food to cover the needs of the population in the Gaza Strip for approximately three months. 350 trucks loaded with food aid have already been delivered to Gaza over the past week, despite significant security challenges faced by field teams during distribution operations.
The statement added that this number of trucks does not meet the minimum requirements, representing just over half of the convoys the WFP requested to be allowed into. The WFP confirmed that the Gaza Strip urgently needs more than 62,000 tons of food aid per month to meet the basic needs of Palestinians suffering from food insecurity.
The WFP indicated that the humanitarian situation has reached catastrophic levels, with one-third of Gaza’s population going without food for days, and approximately 470,000 people suffering from famine-like conditions, including approximately 90,000 women and children in need of urgent nutritional treatment. The statement stressed that the ongoing military operations disrupt food supplies, expose civilians and aid workers to grave risks, and make the delivery of humanitarian aid a near-impossible challenge.
The program called for urgent action to achieve a ceasefire and establish safe and stable humanitarian corridors, warning that delaying implementation could lead to an unprecedented deterioration in living and humanitarian conditions within the Strip.
