The Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, announced that Israel has displaced more than 1,000 Palestinians since the beginning of this year in Area C of the West Bank.
Based on UN data, Haq stated that “since the beginning of the year, more than 1,000 people have been displaced in Area C, which constitutes approximately 60 percent of the West Bank and is an area where Israel has virtually exclusive control over law enforcement, planning, and construction.”
He explained that most of the displaced Palestinians had their homes demolished under the pretext of lacking building permits, permits which he described as “virtually impossible” for Palestinians to obtain.
The UN spokesperson noted that this level of displacement represents the “second highest annual rate” recorded since 2009.
The occupying power frequently carries out demolitions of homes and buildings in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, claiming they are “unlicensed.”
Official data indicates that the occupation authorities prevent Palestinians from building or working in agriculture in Area C, and obtaining building permits there is virtually impossible.
It should be noted that the occupation has intensified its attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, since the start of the war in Gaza, resulting so far in the deaths of 1,085 Palestinians and injuries to more than 10,000 others, in addition to the arrest of more than 20,000 Palestinians, including 1,600 children, according to Palestinian sources.
